Art Action Earwig

Minah Lee and Wryly Andherson are the founding duo of Art Action Earwig (2020~), an interdisciplinary arts collective based between Nanaimo and Vancouver, unceded Coast Salish territories. They have been new guests living and working in central Vancouver Island, the lands of the Snuneymuxw and Snaw-Naw-As peoples. Their work is also situated in South Korea and Japan where our members’ homes and families are. Minah is an artist who grew up in South Korea and moved to the Coast Salish territories in 2007, always investigating meanings and feelings of home and borders. Wryly is a multi-disciplinary, multi-media and performance artist interested in wrestling with complicated stories and re-evaluating values. Born on the unceded traditional lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ territories, Wryly’s ancestry is a confluence of Northwest European settlers, born, living and working in Coast Salish territories. Together we weave various media, including audiovisual, music, text, food, and other compostable matters into our performative art actions. As a collective composed during the early onset of Covid-19 pandemic, mutual aid is at the core of our values, nurturing our collective creative sustainability.

Art Action Earwig’s art practices concern issues deeply rooted in local communities and beyond national borders, exploring challenging yet inspiring matters of our time that call for actions. We celebrate our personal stories and the conversations that come out of different identities. We mobilize creative access to pressing social and political matters that engender divides in our societies. We use creative expression to amplify concerns and unlock social change.
