Fred Wilson

I am Fred Wilson

I am a member of the Gitga’at Nation, through my mother’s side of the family, so I am also a member of the Gisbutwada Clan  and have family ties to the Cowichan Valley through my father’s side of the family.

In my life, I have a commercial fisher, Captain of large vessels, been an educator, principal, independent contractor, addictions counsellor. I have also been a coach of many sports, lacrosse, ice hockey, soccer, basketball, baseball, and volleyball, and worked to receive certification in all those sports.

My interests include, landscape art, music, composing poems, short stories and scripts for plays for adults and children.

I am a grandfather, father, uncle, brother, cousin and have very large families on both sides of my parent’s families.

Academically, I have achieved 2 degrees and a Masters, although, I do not hold much weight in those achievements, my motto has always been, ‘when one pursues a higher education, it means nothing if you don’t become a caring, better person that contributes to community.’

My favourite way to live is with a light spirit, lots of humour, traditional diet and stay active, my goal is to be able to fish and hunt alone at 85, not that I will probably, but I want to have the ability.
